ALL SET FOR THE AUTUMN?
New this year are two Sunday school groups at Christ Church. Because of growing numbers and lack of space in the vestry these will now be held in Christ Church school (see below for more information).
As with all our children’s groups – they leave at the end of the first hymn in the church with their parents to the respective areas.
Film Nights
We are introducing film nights on Thursday evenings in October starting at 7.30 p.m on 14th, 21st, 28th and November 4th. Films are a medium capable of provoking us to think about the big questions of life. So, this autumn the plan is to show four films, including a short reflection before the film and with popcorn and ice-cream during. Look out for more information in our October magazine. Here are reminders of our usual groups – contact the parish office for more information about any of them.

Sunday School
A supervised crèche, 'mini-Sunday school’,welcomes all children aged 0-4. Each week includes a song, story and craft activity to explore the theme of the readings that are used in church on the same day.Toys are available for the younger ones. For older children learning is done a context of worship that is more like church than school. There is a structured pattern of song, biblical leading, prayer and creative reflection. At St Luke’s this is for children aged 5-10 (in the Crypt), and at Christ Church there are two groups–one for 4-6 year olds, and the other for 6-10 (both meet at Christ Church school).

Café Sunday
Various activities are organised for children aged 10 and over during the services. They meet on the second and fourth Sunday of each month and, café style, socialise and have discussions over drinks. The first Sunday of the month they are encouraged to attend church and help by serving. One of the highlights from last term was a visit to the London College of Fashion where they met the chaplain, Rev’d Joanna Jepson, and had a go at designing some outfits.
Parish Junior Choir
The junior choir rehearses every Wednesday during term time at 5-6pm. For children aged six and over, they sing at the Sunday morning service several times a term . It is led by an experienced professional singing teacher, Emily Calderwood. One of the highlights from this term was ‘A Summer Mosaic’ charity concert supporting Leukaemia research–see photo. |
