Our first ever 'Green Sunday' was on 17 June 2012. Services at both churches celebrated God's gift of creation and reflected upon how we may be good 'care-takers' of it. It also helped kick-started the parish ‘Light-bulb Challenge’. Please sponsor replacing our lighting to super efficient and long lasting LED light bulbs - £10 each bulb. This will be a step-change in the way our churches are lit and will generate significant energy savings. One church reduced their electricity bill by over 70% by doing this.
The parish Green Group is the ‘environmental conscience’ of the church. It aims to make our churches and church halls as environmentally friendly as possible, to recycle as much as possible, and to encourage everyone to take personally responsibility.
Since the beginning of 2012, the Parish joined the ‘Route 2050’ initiative of the Diocese of London. This new initiative aims to cut the parish’s energy use, costs and carbon footprints. Central to the initiative is to reduce the Parish’s greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% by 2050, from a 2010 baseline. We are amongst the first parishes in the country to sign-up to this challenge.
